My workflow

The creation of imaginative realism usually consists of several phases that help the artist gradually materialize an unreal idea into a tangible form and shape. It’s necessary to understand the subject matter, choose the overall composition and essence of the painting (small sketches), and then decide on the color palette, contrasts, light and shadow, and the focal point. To discover these elements, artists often use various resources (photo references, clay or paper models, case studies, etc.).

Personally, in most projects, I proceed as follows:

1. Thumbnail sketch

Small sktech with small size (e.g. 10x15cm)
-Capture of the esence of the painting
mostly on paper, searching for composition, lights and shades e.g.

2. Color study

"Barevná studie"

One or more smaller or medium size paintings,
offers room for experimentation, searching for color and shape harmony,
creating atmosphere, and suggest details and textures.

3. Final scale painting process

1. Primming the surface ( mdf board or canvas)
2. underpainting or Imprimatura
3. blocking with color
4. layers of acrylic or oilpaint, creating details, using references e.g.
